| Head of the laboratory | Ing. František Jakab, PhD. |
| Number and structure of the laboratory staff | Number: 23 (employees-doctorands-students of KPI), Lecturers: 4, Researcher: 1 , PhD. students: 6, Students: 12l Lab engineer.: 1 |
| Nature of research activities | Established in -1995: result of resolving research tasks and projects reflecting cooperation with the industrial practice. Focus of research: network infrastructures & transmission of multimedia-nature information. Special attention is paid to the following fields: Effective methods of the QoS parameters evaluation, Streaming technologies implementation, Video-conference solutions and new generation voice services, Monitoring, controlling and visualising topologies in LAN-WAN, Virtual communication infrastructures and their utilisation in education. Being realised in the laboratory is a unique model of getting the students involved in research & development activities. |
| Instrumental equipment (‘age' and value) | Contemporary instrumental equipment suitable for both research and teaching of the computer networks associated subjects (purchased prevailingly between 2001 and 2007). Overall value of the devices exceeds some 10 mil. SKK. |
| State grants awarded (since 2002) (Number and financial amount) | State: 8, c.a. 8 mil. SKK Note: Base on the LPS formed as the first one in both SR and the CZR was the so-called Regional network academy CISCO (some 0.4 mil. SKK annually) |
| Foreign grants awarded (since 2002) (Number and financial amount) | Foreign: 4, c.a. 3 mil. SKK |
| Number of like laboratories in the region | The lab is the best equipped "computer networks" type laboratory in the Slovak republic. Similar laboratories: None in the region |
| Number of like laboratories in Slovakia | In Slovakia: STU (FIIT), ZU (KIS) |
| Area | The premises present a complex of 5 contemporarily equipped rooms (200m2); suitable for specialised, research activities and tuition. |
| Lab accreditation (yes/no/possible within a year) | No (possible within a year). Note: The Lab presents a centre for preparing Slovak network specialist (coordinates a net of 26 schools participating on an international network program) |
| Need for investments to attain "excellent laboratory" status | C.a. 2 mil. SKK a year (further development and operational costs) |
